Notes: Sitting MP Henry Rotton was nominated and spoke on the hustings but withdrew from the contest. He chose to contest Bathurst where he was defeated on 20 December. Note that John Lucas was also re-elected as MP for Canterbury the day before he won Hartley so he is shown here as elected rather than re-elected. Lucas subsequently resigned Canterbury and sat for Hartley.
