Notes: The Elections and Qualifications Committee declared Dangar as having an executory contract with the public service. He held a contract for carrying the post on the Barwon and Namoi rivers, the contract lasting for two years and involving on-going public service. His seat was declared vacant on 25 May 1865. (Twomey p.415-6, Votes and Proceedings, LA, 25 May 1865, p.537) Having sorted out his contract problems, he was easily re-elected at the by-election.
Source: Maitland Mercury, report of nominations 26 June 1865, p.3 col.2, results 11 July 1865, p.2 col.4. The report of nominations was difficult to follow, but Thomas Dangar was nominated, whether deliberately or in confusion is not clear, as was P Quinn. Thomas Dangar received one vote and has been included as a candidate, but Quinn has not been included. No other reports were located.
