A special Bicentenary exhibition
Why was the business of the House determined by a bingo draw? Why did Clerks and Presiding Officers stop wearing traditional wigs? Why did they wear them in the first place? Where do the rules that govern business in the Houses come from? Where can I find the Aboriginal message stick and why was it presented to the Parliament? Parliamentary business can sometimes seem opaque, mysterious or even downright strange. Join us as we begin to unlock the mysteries of the chamber and delve into the Legislative Council’s unique and, at times, colourful history. Unlocking the House presents 10 stories which unlock parliamentary practice, tradition, representation and social change. The exhibition highlights key events over the past 200 years –from the early colonial days through to today.
