About the Department of the Legislative Assembly

​Our role

​We support the House, its committees and Members without taking sides, provide clear and accurate information to the public, and help people engage with Parliament.​ 

Our main work is to:
  • support the sittings of the House
  • help Members carry out their roles as elected representatives and lawmakers
  • give advice on parliamentary law, procedures and practice
  • create, publish and maintain the official records of the House and its committees
  • publish clear information about the Legislative Assembly, how it works and its procedures
  • provide administrative and research support to parliamentary committees
  • promote the work of parliamentary committees
  • engage with the community about the Legislative Assembly and the Parliament
  • manage relationships with other parliaments in Australia and around the world
  • support meetings and events held within the parliamentary precinct.

Our Public Engagement Strategy

​​​​​​​The Department of the Legislative Assembly promotes the business of 
the Legislative Assembly, supports our members, and enhances 
participation in parliamentary proceedings. 

The three Departments of the NSW Parliament work together to build 
trust and increase engagement with the NSW Parliament.
