A delegation of members led by the Hon. John Ajaka, President of the Legislative Council visited Honiara between 17-20 April 2018 to launch the Twinning Bilong Yumi scholarship, a program aimed at supporting professional development of staff of the National Parliament of Solomon Islands and the Bougainville House of Representatives.
The scholarship recipient will be invited to either:
- prepare and present a paper at a relevant professional development event, such as, but no limited to: the ANZACATT Professional Development Seminar, the Australasian Study of Parliament Group Conference, the Australasian Parliamentary Educators Conference, or a tertiary institution in the region.
- prepare a report or paper on a suitable research topic, for possible publication in a relevant journal.
The scholarship is open to all staff, however female staff will initially be prioritised in order to build on recent gender equality initiatives in Bougainville and Solomon Islands. The scholarship will cover the cost of the recipients' travel and accommodation. Scholarship recipients will be encouraged to collaborate with a member of staff from the Parliament of NSW in preparing the paper or report.
