When asked, “What is the role of Parliament?’ most people would respond that it is to make laws and represent the people of NSW.
That would be correct – but did you know that an important role of the legislature is also to hold Government to account?
In the second ‘Parliament Unpacked’ program for 2024 we will examine the role of public institutions like the parliament as "watchdogs" for our democracy.
We'll be asking:
- Which organisations and individuals keep the decision makers accountable?
- What processes are in place to keep the machinery of government running honestly and smoothly?
- How do we ensure the public have the information they need to make an informed electoral choice?
- Join our panel of experts: the Chair of Parliamentary Committee on the Independent Commission Against Corruption; the NSW Ombudsman; the Auditor-General of New South Wales and the Deputy Leader of the NSW Opposition, as they discuss how the organisations they represent play the critical role of watchdogs in our democratic system of government.
