Discover the world of Wagga Wagga artist Juanita McLauchlan in her new exhibition, Standing at the Heart of Seven Generations. This impressive showcase, running from April 3 to 29, 2024, echoes the essence of the past while resonating profoundly with the present.
Juanita McLauchlan is a Gamilaraay woman living on Wiradjuri country Wagga Wagga. Drawing inspiration from her Aboriginal heritage, McLauchlan's exhibition offers a poignant reflection on the significance of lineage and the enduring legacy passed down through generations.
Through her masterful use of different mediums including collagraph and woodcut prints, soft sculpture, and woollen blankets, McLauchlan intricately weaves together stories, symbols, and traditions, inviting viewers on a journey of cultural discovery and introspection.
The exhibition's title, Standing at the Heart of Seven Generations holds a deep significance, serving as a reminder of the responsibility to honour the past, embrace the present, and pave the way for future generations.
“My work helps me to explore my identity, in my community and in my family,” said Juanita. “Everything I make is based in the understanding that my history, inheritances, loves and relationships are shaped by Country and by family circumstance”.
Member for Wagga Wagga Dr. Joe McGirr is hosting the exhibition at Parliament House.
