Native Food Experience: 3 June

Native Food Experience: 3 June

A sensory journey through culture, storytelling, and native flavours: Every bite will connect you to Country As part of 2025 Vivid Sydney's

Food Program, NSW Parliament invites you to immerse yourself in an unforgettable native food experience, showcasing the deep connection between food, culture, and storytelling.

Join the Parliament of NSW’s award-winning Executive Chef, Vanessa Harcourt, and First Nations Chef and founder of Ngaran Ngaran Cultural Awareness & Mirritya Mundya, Dwayne Bannon-Harrison, as they take you on a culinary and cultural journey like no other, as part of Vivid Food.

From the delicate balance of bush spices to the fresh, earthy tones of native greens, every bite will connect you to Country.

During the hustle and bustle of a sitting night at NSW Parliament House, this cultural experience will captivate your senses. Each dish is crafted with native Australian ingredients - some sourced directly from the 6 Macquarie Street, Sydney CBD precinct’s very own native food garden. Ethically harvested and sustainably sourced, the 3-course will showcase the deep knowledge and traditions of First Nations people.

Dwayne, a Yuin man from the Shoalhaven region of New South Wales, strives to represent the cultural richness of his ancestors. Through his exceptional knowledge of Aboriginal culture and food, guests at this unique experience in Australia’s oldest parliament will gain a deeper understanding of how traditional wisdom continues to shape the way we connect with the land on which we live and work.

As you dine, our chef will share the cultural significance of each ingredient and the stories of the land they come from. This is more than a meal - it’s a journey through Australia’s oldest living culture, brought to life on your plate.

More Than a Meal - A Moment of Reflection

The Dreaming allows Aboriginal people to understand their place within traditional society and nature. Vivid Sydney seeks to take this even further as a universal experience through its 2025 vision: Our human story is embedded in dreams; they help explain our existence and our past.

Parliament holds a complex and challenging history, with laws that have profoundly impacted Aboriginal communities. Not shying away from this, the Native Food Experience invites guests to reflect on this history and, in doing so, to dream of a future built on greater cultural awareness, respect, and reconciliation.
