Qualifications, occupations and interests
Lawyer (solicitor). Educated at Hobart Collegiate School; entered the office of Charles Elliston in 1867 as a junior clerk; articled in 1870, admitted as a solicitor in 1874, in Hobart from 1874 until 1880; moved to Sydney., managing clerk with John Dawson and Son; solicitor in 1881, senior partner in Creswell and Whatmore. Struck off the roll in 1912; later became a conveyancing clerk; vice president of Royal North Shore Hospital Board. Honorary treasurer of the North Sydney Benevolent Society from c.1904 until 1912; noted oarsman, committee member of New South Wales Rowing Association.
