Commenced work as a messenger boy with T.Williams & Co. and eventually owned the business, manufacturing boots and shoes for many years until retired in 1896. Director of Sydney Permanent Freehold Land and Building Society at least in 1886. Returning officer for South Sydney from 1887 until 1893; member of South Sydney School Board, chairman in 1902 at least. Member of Free Trade and Land Reform Association. Foundation president. Pitt Street Congregationalist Literary and Social Union.
