Qualifications, occupations and interests
Pastoralist and agricultural proprietor. Arrived in New South Wales in 1836. Educated at The King's School, Parramatta and later under Dr Woolls. Owner of Blowering Station for many years. Jointly owned Tumut Plains with Mr Harris. The property comprised 2000 acres of the best agricultural land which was let to farmers who grew tobacco and maize at rentals of up to £2 an acre per annum. Also owned Wermatong Station, Tumut and Uoka. The latter held jointly with DF Johnson. Prior to death was an auctioneer.

Personal
Son of John, a pastoralist, and Charlotte, nee Dowling. Married Amelia Matilda Shelley on 12 December 1854 and had issue, 8 daughters and 4 sons. Church of England.
