Lawyer (solicitor). Educated at W.T Cape's school, Sydney College from 1835 until 1839, and under Reverend J.S Walpole 1840 and Reverend Robert Forrest in 1841. Articled to father in 1842. Admitted as a solicitor on 2 July 1848; joined father in practice as Norton & Son. Notary public from 1860. Solicitor to University of Sydney from 1886. Awarded an Honorary LLD by St Andrew's University in 1890. Director of Australian Gaslight Company. North Shore Gas Company. Australian Joint Stock Bank. Fellow of St Pauls College, University of Sydney from 1869. On committee of Union Club.
