Lawyer (barrister). Educated in London. Served in an Attorneys office. Entered Middle Temple in 1837; called to the Bar in 1841; practised mainly in equity. Became the leading barrister in equity cases; Queens Counsel; Devout Evangelical Anglican; director in Sydney. Diocesan Committee and Educational and Book Society. Chancellor Sydney Diocese 1862 - 1874 and 1884, Registrar 1867 - 1869; represented Church of England on Denominational School Board. 1859 - 1866; fellow of St Pauls College 1867 - 1874; churchwarden at St Paul's, Redfern; taught Sunday School and men's bible class; helped create a Constitution for Church of England in Australia 1872. Went to England in 1874; Retired to England, late 1885.
