Qualifications, occupations and interests
Storekeeper. Trained as a banker in Scotland. Arrived in Sydney in 1839 and journeyed to Yass in 1840; becoming a partner of C.B Harrison and general storekeeper. At a later time became a sole proprieter, and became a merchant and brewer in 1849 and postmaster in 1851. Sold out in 1866. Subsequently acquired at least 10 pastoral properties in New South Wales.
