Qualifications, occupations and interests
Lawyer (barrister). Educated at Fulham College, then Caius College, Cambridge (B.A 1829, M.A 1832) Certified special pleader 8 years, then called to the bar at Middle Temple in 1840. Arrived in Sydney on 13 October 1844 as Puisne Judge of Supreme Court and continued as a Judge whilst a Member of the Legislative Council. Acting Chierf Justice from 15 February 1860 until 17 February 1861 when he retired on a pension of £1050 per annum. Returned to England where he was knighted. Advocated colonial hereditary baronetage as a basis for a new Legislative Council in 1852. Member of the Royal Commission into Court in 1848. Estate valued at over £21,000.
