Qualifications, occupations and interests
Civil Engineer. Educated at Royal Military College, Great Marlow. Received a provisional appointment as a civil engineer, inspector of roads and bridges, and was later recommended by Darling as a deputy surveyor general. In 1829 retired from public life and after 1840 lived mainly at Tivoli in Rose Bay, but continued his association with the Scone district. Was largely responsible for the erection of St Luke's Church of England in Scone and after his wife's death in 1866, moved to Queensland.
Military Service
Served during the Peninsular War and in Canada, where as a Captain in the Royal Staff Corps, was engaged in the construction of the Ottawa Canal.

Son of Colonel John Dumaresq of Bushel Hall, Shropshire, England, and his wife Anne Jones. Married Christiana Susan Macleay, second daughter of Alexander Macleay, the New South Wales Colonial Secretary, on 15 October 1830 at Sydney and had issue, 1 son and 1 daughter.
