Qualified Lieutenant-Colonel 1959. Grazier. Educated at Knox Grammar School, Wahroonga. Recreational interests include military history and agriculture.

Militia 1939. 2nd AIF (Australian Imperial Forces) 1939-1945: 2/2 Battalion. Served in North Africa, Greece, Crete and New Guinea (twice). Awarded Distinguished Service Order (DSO) and was mentioned in despatches. Citizen Military Forces 1948-1967. 12/16 Hunter River Lancers (1948-1963); Command and Staff link (1963-1967). Awarded Efficiency Decoration (ED).
