Educated at Cooks Hill High School; commenced business career as a Newcastle and Northern area representative for New England and North West Producers' Company Limited, wool brokers, partly instrumental in establishment of Newcastle Wool Exchange; transferred to family firm, P.W Saddington and Sons Pty Limited in late 1920's, sold insurance; later became a director of Saddington Insurances Pty Limited, and of A.R Stenhouse and Partners (Australia) Pty Limited with which Saddington Insurances Pty Limited merged in 1961; councillor of Newcastle Chamber of Commerce 1945 - 1962, president 1950 -1952; director of Hunter Valley Research Foundation 1958 - 1962, chairman 1961 - 1962; service during Hunter Valley floods; member of Newcastle Regional Development committee 1951 - 1962 and Port of Newcastle Authority; councillor of University of Newcastle in 1962; member of Newcastle War Memorial Cultural Centre committee; closely associated with New England New States movement; prominent Freemason; member of Newcastle Diocesan Synod 1960 - 1962, chairman of Diocesan Liaison committee. Recreational interests include bowling and yachting.
