Australian Labor Party (ALP). Active member from early 1940's and became president of the Gwydir federal electorate council in 1951, campaign director of state and federal elections; expelled in 1959 for voting against the party on the Legislative Council Bill; leader of Independent Labor group from 1961 until 1975.

Wheat farmer. Educated at Wyaldra, Yarraman and Grass Tree Vale public schools; ran mail from Coolah to Tambar Springs and Mullaly from 1921 until 1925, also conducted a taxi service in Gunnedah district; purchased Box Forest, Tambar Springs c.1925, mixed farming; sold out in 1928, purchased 'Lorolla' in the Tambar Springs district; owned until death; secretary of Tambar Springs Public Hall committee in 1926; president of Wheatgrowers' Union of of New South Wales from 1944 until 1945; member of Australian Wheatgrowers' Federation; member of Gunnedah District Land Board from 1942 until 1965. Recreational interests include tennis, cricket, shooting, and horse racing. Secretary of Tambar Springs Amateur Turf Club in 1929.
