Educated at Edenhope public school; left school at thirteen, hotel yardsman, farming and station experience; moved to Riverina from Yarram, Victoria in 1898; became a shop assistant at H.S Rich and Company; acquired a store at Grong Grong then joined A.H Mackie in purchasing a store at Narrandera; later became a sole owner of the business and sold it in 1927; also acquired stores at Matong and Ganmain; executive committee of the South West Storekeepers' Association from 1930 until 1931; acquired lands in Murrumbidgee Irrigation area near Ardlethan, Wilga near Narrandera and Lemnos near Eurolie; pioneer ricegrower and first chairman of the Rice Marketing Board from 1928 until 1931; assisted in the foundation of Leeton Cannery in 1935; foundation president of Narrandera and District Repatriation committee, member of Producers' Advisory Council; central executive of Riverina Development League; Riverina Movement Referendum Committee in 1931; active in Local Comforts Fund; elder of St John's Presbyterian church at Narrandera.
