Broker. At age fourteen entered the office of John Hardie, mining broker; remained with firm when business changed hands to become a partner in Leonard Dodds and Company. Lived in Drummoyne from 1889; founder of Drummoyne School of Arts and Drummoyne Bowling Club; member of Drummoyne Progress Association. Parents and Citizens' Association, and Rifle Reserve Club; Oddfellow; Freemason.

Son of William Samuel Richards, mariner, and Margaret Royal. Married Margaret Goodsir and they had 5 daughters and 3 sons. Methodist. Funeral in Field of Mars cemetery.
