Qualifications, occupations and interests
Medical Practitioner. Arrived in Melbourne with parents in 1857. At a later time established a medical practice at Wallsend. Educated by father at St Patricks College, Melbourne, and at Edinburgh University. (MB, Chm 1882, MD 1888); postgraduate study in London, Dublin, Paris, Member of the Royal College of Surgeons; Medical Director. Established a practice at Lambton in New South Wales. Honorary surgeon at Newcastle Hospital, later Wallsend Hospital.
Military Service
Joined Lambton Company. 4th Regiment Volunteer Infantry; Captain in 1886, Major in 1896; served in the Australian Infantry Forces 1914 until 1916, Australian Army Medical Corps, Egypt and the Peninsula, rising to Honorary Lieutentant Colonel. On return resumed practice as a renal and vesicle surgeon.
