Commodore of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron. Foundation member of the National Rifle Association of New South Wales 1860, Honorary Secretary 1866 - 1868, Vice President 1870 - 1877, trustee 1877 - 1909. Commissioner Melbourne International Exhibition 1880, Melbourne Centennial Exhibition 1888. Director of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Trustee Art Gallery from 1876 to 1887. On the Council for New South Wales Academy of Art. Founder member and trustee of the Union Club. President 1901 - 1908.
Qualifications, occupations and interests
Pastoralist. Educated at Sydney College, and later entered Trinity College Cambridge after moving to England in 1846, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1853 and a Master of Arts in 1857. He was called to the Bar at Middle Temple in 1854, but did not practice. He returned to New South Wales, having commercial and pastoral interests he became a silent partner in Dangar Brothers, Dangar Gilchrist and Co. and other companies. When the partnership with his brother dissolved in 1897 Henry took Yallaroi Station, Warialda. He was a successful racehorse owner. Pastoral and Mercantile interests.

Son of Henry Dangar, pastoralist and his wife Grace Sibley. Married on 19 September 1865 to Lucy Jane Lamb, daughter of Commander John Lamb of the Royal Navy, and had issue, 4 sons and 7 daughters. His father, Henry Dangar, was a member of the first Legislative Council; and his father-in-law, Commander John Lamb, was also a Member of the first Legislative Council and a Member of the post-responsible government Legislative Council. His uncle, Thomas Dangar, was also a Member of the Legislative Assembly; his step-cousin, Thomas Gordon Gibbons Dangar was also a Member of the Legislative Assembly. After graduating he toured the Continent with his parents. He was given the family home 'Grantham' at Potts Point by his mother in the 1860's, he then inherited the Neotsfield Estate near Singleton from his brother in 1890. Church of England.
