Left school at an early age to help father; worked as a shearer; member of Australian Workers Union, appointed as an organiser in 1901, federation vice president and president of the central branch from 1914 until 1924. President of New South Wales branch in 1938, replaced by the direction of the federal executive; director of the 'World' 1931 - 1932. Owned property in the Monaro electorate.
