Coal Miner and trade union official. Educated at Maitland High School, entered mines in 1934, stoker, secretary of Abermain No.1 Lodge, became an industrial advocate for Miners' Federation , president of Northern District from 1950 until 1953, general secretary from 1954 until 1959; secretary of Abermain Returned Serviceman's League from 1944 until 1946. Recreational interests include billiards and football.
Military Service
Served in Royal Australian Navy from 1939 until 1944, Her Majesty's Australian Ship Australia.
