Lawyer (barrister). Educated privately. Arrived in Sydney on 4 September 1853; worked as a stockbrokers clerk and in a bookshop. By 1857 had passed preliminary examination of Barristers Admission Board. Returned to England with the financial assistance of the Jewish community. Entered Grays Inn in October 1858 and was called to the Bar in January 1861. Returned to New South Wales and was called to the New South Wales Bar in July 1861. Became a successful barrister; Gazetted as Chief Justice from 12 November 1886 until 27 November 1886. Resigned before being sworn in. Elected as New South Wales Agent General in London from 1899 until 1900. Retired from practice in 1907; had investments in sugar industry. Became a skilled debater. Trustee of National Art Gallery of New South Wales. Member of Barristers Admission Board from 1872 until 1873. Prominent in Jewish affairs. Visited Europe frequently for health. Changed name to Salomons c.1858. Founder of Sydney's Jewish community.
