Foundation President of Wagga Wagga and District Horsebreeders Association 1913. Member of Murrumbidgee Turf Club over 50 years.
Qualifications, occupations and interests
Carrier and pastoralist. Arrived in Sydney with parents as a bounty immigrant in January 1840 on the 'Crusader'. Some primary education at Wollongong. Droving with father, family living at Nangue from 1844, Gundagai from 1849. Went to Victorian and New South Wales goldfields. Settled in Wagga Wagga in 1854. Won government mail contracts and had horses and large staff on mail routes. Sold out to Cobb & Co. 1872. Speculated in pastoral leases from 1875 selling at a profit. Invested in urban real estate and Riverina properties. Recreational Interests include riding as an amateur jockey.
