Australian Labor Party (ALP). Joined in 1926, member of Hamilton, Adamstown and Dudley-Redhead branches, president of Kahibah state electoral council and Newcastle Municipal Assembly.
Qualifications, occupations and interests
Boilermaker. Educated at Wickham and Cooks Hill Boys' High School; apprenticed to boilermaking at Walsh Island government dockyard in Newcastle; had a long period of unemployment during 1930s depression; employed at Lysaght's, returned to dockyard in 1940, became a plant and yard superintendent; member of Boilermakers' Society (later Amalgamated Metal Workers' Union) from 1926; Newcastle president of New South Wales Road Safety Council, president of driver training school from c.1960, member of executive committee of Road Safety Council 1968 - 1971, attended international road safety conference in Hong Kong 1969, chairman of Singapore in 1970; Freemason.
