Educated at Dungog public school; left school at sixteen to work on father's dairy farm, which continued to run after father's death in 1900; owned six farms run on a sharefarmer basis and some grazing property at death; director of Dungog Co-operative Butter Factory from 1908 until 1963; president of Agricultural Society; president of Dungog School of Arts; member of Primary Producers' Union from 1918 until 1963; foundation president of Dungog branch, delegate to central executive from 1926 until 1963, life member in 1961, president of Lower Hunter and Gloucester district council for many years; councillor of Junior Farmers; president of Dungog Hospital Board in 1930; Jersey cattle judge.
