Builder. Educated at Cleveland Street public school; established Hocking Brothers, builders and contractors in 1898, became a large employer; director of Canterbury Brick Company., Master Builders' Insurance Company and Hocking Indestructible Water Heater Company; president of Canterbury Bankstown Master Builders Association from 1919 until 1928, delegate to Federated Master Builders' conventions; member of Empire Parliamentary Association.

Son of Francis Hocking, storekeeper and English migrant, and Louisa Collins. Married Ethel Westacott on 10 March 1902 at Pyrmont and had issue, 3 daughters and 1 son. Methodist. Funeral at Rookwood crematorium from Dulwich Hill Methodist church.
