Australian Labor Party (ALP). Supporting Protestestant. accepted pledge in 1894, member of central executive 1897, 1907-1908, left over conscription; National Party.
Qualifications, occupations and interests
Builder and quarryman. Educated in a Northern Wales School; arrived in Sydney in 1879 and worked in Pyrmont quarries. Journeyed to Temora and Moruya diggings and returned to Pyrmont. Joined by parents and rest of family in 1881, established with father John Webster and Sons, quarry masters and masons; went into building trade and became bankrupt in 1895; returned to quarrying in Sydney and later Moree; joined Quarrymen's union in 1880, delegate to the Trades and Labor Council (TLC), secretary in 1880; active in friendly societies and temperance movement.
