Miner. Commenced work in mines in Fifeshire at c.12 years; at a later time became a miner in Lanarkshire. Arrived in Australia in 1874. Worked in Australian Agricultural Companys mine at the Borehole, also at Brown's Minmi mine and at Wallsend, Stockton, Burwood. Official in miners' lodges. Was for a time President of Miners' Association.
