(1) On what date did Transport for NSW receive a request from Newcastle council to approve the installation of traffic signals at the intersection of Clyde and Chinchen Streets, Islington?

(a) How many times was this request followed up with Transport for NSW?

(b) What caused the delays in approving this request?

(c) Is it normal practice for traffic signal requests to take this long to approve?

(d) The delays in approving the traffic signals have resulted in a dangerous intersection not being upgraded to improve safety at this location, does this concern the Minister?

(e) What action has the Minister taken to ensure these delays do not happen again?

(f) What can the Minister do to expedite the installation of the traffic signals?

(2) Will Transport for NSW urgently work with Newcastle council to improve pedestrian safety at this location after a student was hit by a car?

(a) If not, why not?

Transport for NSW has provided information to City of Newcastle Council to assist the Council in making safety improvements to the intersection.
