(1) How many household customers were charged interest for late payment on household water bills in the following financial years:

(a) 2019-2020?

(b) 2020-2021?

Hunter Water

(a) 75,883

(b) 59,806

Hunter Water did not charge interest for any customer (residential or non-residential) who was financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic

Water NSW

(a) 4,731 Water NSW customers in total for the period 1 July 2019 to 31 January 2020.

(b) Nil.

As part of the NSW Government’s COVID-19 response, interest due from Water NSW customers from February 2020 to June 2021 has been waived.

Sydney Water

(a) 447,0611

(b) 288,6051

Sydney Water stopped charging late payment fees and interest during periods in both financial years to assist customers during the pandemic-driven economic climate.
