To the President and Members of the Legislative Council, the petitioners of New South Wales state that there is widespread concern about the cruelty, injury, neglect, death rates and wrongdoing within the greyhound industry. The industry continues to demonstrate its inability to reform, greyhound injury and death rates are abhorrent and GWIC investigations show a culture of drugging, dealing drugs, physical and sexual assault, racist abuse, greyhound neglect, greyhound killing and false statements, with 135 charges against 103 participants in 2023. Despite the McHugh inquiry, government intervention, public money and GWIC have failed to regulate the industry or protect greyhounds which continue to suffer, are discarded, die or are killed. The petitioners request that the House legislate to end commercial greyhound racing in New South Wales.
