  1. Under what circumstances are organisations allowed to give private phone numbers to other organisations?
  2. What are the penalties, if any, when these circumstances are breached?
Answer -

I am advised to refer the member to:

    1. Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988 that governs the disclosure of personal information by organisations in the private sector (including unlisted telephone numbers)
    2. The Privacy and Personal Information Act 1998 (NSW) (the PPIP Act) which covers NSW public sector agencies.
