3315 - NEWCASTLE URBAN RENEWAL

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, and Minister Assisting the Premier on Infrastructure NSW, Leader of the House
  1. Given that the Government's strategy for the Newcastle Urban Renewal includes developing businesses, what plans are in place by the Minister to engage in increasing the population in Newcastle to support those businesses?
  2. (a) Will the Government deploy government departments from Sydney to be established in the Hunter?
    (b) If not, why not?
Answer -
  1. The Newcastle Urban Renewal Strategy is currently on public exhibition and I encourage the community, industry and business sector to make submissions.
  2. I am advised that a number of government departments are already located in the Hunter region, with many having a regional office in the city centre.
