2422 - COUNTRY TOWNS WATER SUPPLY AND SEWERAGE PROGRAM

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Emergency Services, and Minister for Water
  1. What is the Government doing under the Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program to update water and sewerage services to the Wallsend Electorate?
  2. How many projects are currently under construction in the Wallsend Electorate?
  3. How many projects have been funded since March 2007?
Answer -
  1. The Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage (CTWSS) Program provides technical and financial assistance to country-based local water utilities. Funds are not available from the current Program for works in the major metropolitan water authorities' areas of operations - i.e. Hunter Water Corporation (HWC) or Sydney Water Corporation (SWC). These are large water utilities with a large rate base and are not in need of funding under this Program.
  2. There are no projects in the electorate of Wallsend that are currently funded under the Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program (CTWSS). The electorate lies wholly within the area of operations of Hunter Water Corporation (HWC) and is therefore not eligible for funding under the CTWSS Program. Instead projects are funded by HWC.
  3. The NSW Government has made 57 grant offers to country-based local water utilities since March 2007 with a total value of over $35 million.
