965 - OPAL CARD MACHINES

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure
  1. Will the Government increase the outlets where an Opal card can be purchased or topped up, considering the recent announcement that no paper pensioner excursion tickets will be available for purchase?
  2. Will the Government ensure that there is an Opal card outlet in all suburbs, considering some suburbs in the Wallsend electorate do not have access to an outlet to obtain or top up an Opal card?
    1. If not, why not?
Answer -

I am advised:

There are currently 2,000 Opal retailers, which is more than 50 per cent higher than the number of paper ticket retailers.

Within the Wallsend electorate there are:

• 12 Opal retailers, compared to 7 paper ticket resellers.

• more Opal retailers than 12 months ago.

Anyone can order an Opal card 24 hours a day from opal.com.au or by calling 13 6725 (13 OPAL) and get the card mailed to their home.

Customers can add value to their Opal card:

• by setting up an automatic top-up

• by logging into their Opal card account

• by calling Opal Customer Care on 13 67 25 (13 OPAL)

• at Opal retailers

• by using Opal top-up machines at select transport locations

Opal information kiosks are also being rotated across key shopping centre locations. Kiosk locations are based on senior⁄pensioner customer patronage. Opal information teams will also present at community venues such as retirement villages, on request.
