I am advised:
- and (2) The NSW Government provided a $23 million capital investment to
construct the new Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) Building, including
an $8 million contribution from the sale of the David Maddison Building. It
also provides ongoing funding through the Medical Research Support Program
(MRSP). In 2011-12, the State Government allocated $3.9 million to HMRI through
the MRSP.
On 7 September 2012, HMRI was one of 11 medical research
institutes in NSW awarded funding in the 2012-16 MRSP, reaffirming the State
Government's commitment to medical research in the Hunter Region. Instead of
annual contributions, HMRI will be allocated MRSP funding for the next four
years in two allocations, with a mid-term review to determine the level of
funding for the ensuing two-year period. The government has significantly
increased the funding for the HMRI. The initial allocation for 2012-13 and
2012-14 is $5.32 million for each financial year.
