Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Mental Health, Assistant Minister for Health
  1. How is the Government increasing resources to aid in the prevention of self-harm among young people, particularly those aged 15-24?
  2. Will the Government increase funding to Hunter New England Health to increase staff and programs to aid in the prevention of self-harm?
    1. If not, why not?
Answer -

I am advised:

(1) The Government is providing prevention and treatment initiatives for young people through the School-Link program, a joint initiative between NSW Education and Communities and NSW Health. This program supports schools to engage students and facilitate early access to specialist mental health services.

(2) The 2014-15 budget includes $166.5 million for mental health services in the Hunter New England Local Health District. This includes funding for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in the community for children up to 18 years, including those at risk of self-harm.
