Answer -

Detailed information about NSW Police Force authorised and actual strength figures are available on the NSW Police Force website, www.police.nsw.gov.au

Operational capacity in the Newcastle City Local Area Command, as at 24 August 2012, was 98%. Any changes to authorised strength between May and June 2012 are as a result of the creation of standalone Traffic &Highway Patrol and Police Transport Commands.

Officers who were already performing highway patrol or commuter crime-related duties are no longer counted in individual Local Area Command numbers, rather they are counted under the respective of the two Commands and go towards the total number for Field Operations shown on the strength figures.
