  1. In the event of maternal mortality in a New South Wales hospital, does the Government mandate that procedures are in place to ascertain the cause of death?

    1. If so, what are these procedures?
Answer -

The Government sets the mandated process within the New South Wales public health system that are used to verify a death and to notify the Registrar of Birth Deaths and Marriages of a death, including the cause of death.

These procedures are set out in NSW Health policy directive Death - Verification of Death and Medical Certificate of Cause of Death, which is available on the NSW Health website at http:⁄⁄www.health.nsw.gov.au.
