1614 - ASSISTANCE TO SMALL BUSINESS—HUNTER REGION

  1. What assistance is being provided to small businesses affected by the June long weekend storms in the Hunter?
  2. How much of this was allocated to the Wallsend Electorate?
Answer -
  1. The Department of State and Regional Development (DSRD) implemented the Hunter and Central Coast Business Recovery Strategy to assist businesses and communities that were inundated by the June 2007 long weekend storms. In the Hunter region the Strategy comprised:
    • "Rebuilding your Business" workshops in Newcastle, Lambton and Maitland which were free to participating businesses;
    • "BACK2Business" workshops in Hamilton, Wallsend, Newcastle West, Cardiff, Dora Creek, Rathmines, West Wallsend, Branxton⁄Greta and Wollombi which were free to participating businesses and communities;
    • assistance of $5,000 to the Hamilton, Wallsend, Newcastle West, Cardiff, Dora Creek, Rathmines, West Wallsend, Branxton⁄Greta and Wollombi communities toward marketing activities to promote business recovery. 
  2. In the Wallsend Electorate the DSRD ran a "Rebuilding your Business" Workshop in Lambton and "BACK2Business" workshops in Wallsend and Cardiff. The DSRD has also offered $5,000 to the Wallsend and Cardiff communities toward marketing activities to promote business recovery.
