5091 - REVIEW OF NEWCASTLE BUS SERVICES

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Transport

In relation to her answer to LA Question 4637 "Review of Newcastle Buses", the Minster stated "Transport for NSW will undertake the next review of bus services in the Lower Hunter during 2014":

  1. When, in 2014, will this review be undertaken?
  2. What matters will the review cover?
  3. Will this review include a comprehensive review of bus routes in Newcastle?
    1. If not, when will the Government conduct a comprehensive review of Newcastle buses including route configuration?
Answer -

I am advised:

Some bus timetables in Newcastle and the Lower Hunter region were altered to coincide with the new train timetable introduced in October 2013. New links were introduced between Toronto, Wangi Wangi and Morisset on weekdays.

Further, in 2013 I announced the Government's commitment of more than $90 million to fund new buses in 2013-14. As part of this, the Hunter region will receive 13 new buses. These buses will serve two new routes from Kurri Kurri to Maitland and Aberglasslyn to Rutherford, provide additional services on some existing routes, and replace some older buses in the fleet.

As you are aware, on 18 June 2013 the Government announced a commitment to construct light rail in the Newcastle city centre. Newcastle bus services will be reviewed further as part of this project.
