Answer -

I am advised:

All local health districts, through the School-Link initiative, provide school-based specialist mental health services through the delivery of individual and group interventions in schools. School-Link supports the early identification of mental health issues in students; access to evidence-informed mental health early intervention programs in schools; early access to specialist mental health services; and on-going support.

Under the Government's response to Living Well: A Strategic Plan for Mental Health in NSW 2014-2024, three additional School-Link Coordinator positions are being funded across NSW to help create stronger links between the new Department of Education Networked Specialist Centres, schools and community mental health services.

The Hunter New England Local Health District provides a range of services to treat young people who selfharm, including those provided by the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). Through the Safety First Model, urgent next day intensive assessment and care planning processes have been implemented for young people who present to the Emergency Department with self-hanming behaviour. To support this model the service runs education workshops across the District for adult mental health clinicians, CAMHS staff, school counsellors and community stakeholders.
