1366 - UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN THE WALLSEND ELECTORATE

  1. What is the last recorded youth unemployment rate in the electorate of Wallsend?
  2. What Government programs are in place to help reduce this rate of unemployment in the Wallsend electorate?
Answer -
  1. For information regarding unemployment in Wallsend, please refer to the Australian Bureau of Statistics data relating to the statistical area of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.
  2. New South Wales continues to outperform the nation, with the unemployment rate falling to 5.9 percent in September, below the national average.
    The Government has implemented a number of plans to ensure this environment, including the Jobs Action Plan and Small Business Employment Incentive Grant.
    In response to the success of the Jobs Action Plan the Government announced that the program will run for a further four years. From 1 July 2011 to the end of August 2015, the cumulative number of applications received in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie local government areas is 5,218.
    The Small Business Employment Incentive Grant,which commenced from 1 July 2015, provides a $2,000 grant to small businesses not paying payroll tax when they hire new employees and expand their business.
    These measures demonstrate the Government's commitment to jobs growth across New South Wales.
