2423 - CYCLING ROUTES DEVELOPMENT

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Transport
  1. Does the Government have any plans to develop cycling routes in the Hunter?
  2. How will the Minister improve existing amenities for cyclists?
  3. Why has the Government scrapped funding for the $6 million Victoria to Queensland bike trail?
Answer -
  1. to (3) The NSW Government supports cycling as an affordable, sensible and healthy transport choice and to help reduce congestion in urban areas.
One example is that in 2011-12, Roads and Maritime Services designed mid-block traffic lights to be installed on Hannell Street, Maryville. This will provide an important crossing on the Newcastle City to University cycleway route.
The draft NSW Long Term Transport Master Plan will set out the Government's high-level cycling strategy for NSW cities and towns.
