3636 - POLICE TRANSPORT COMMAND

Hornery, Sonia to the Attorney General, and Minister for Justice representing the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Minister for the Hunter, and Vice-President of the Executive Council

How many Police Transport Command now work permanently patrolling the Hunter's trains?

Answer -

I am advised:

The Police Transport Command officers do not permanently patrol the Hunter's trains alone, they also patrol public buses and the Stockton Ferry. The Police Transport Command deploys resources on an intelligence basis, based on identified risk and emerging trends. The Command conducts operations in both command and satellite hubs. The visible presence of police on our public transport networks is an effective deterrent against crime and provides reassurance to public transport customers.

As at 1 February 2013 the authorised strength of the Police Transport Command was 351 sworn officers plus 14 unsworn staff. This aligns with the Government's commitment to increase authorised strength to a target of 610 officers by December 2014.
