835 - ILLEGAL DUMPING

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Energy and Environment

What efforts is the Government making to ensure that illegal dumping, beyond the risk of a fine, is not an attractive option for people looking to dispose of waste?

Answer -

The Government is taking a holistic approach to tackle illegal dumping through implementation of the NSW Illegal Dumping Strategy 2017–21. The strategy outlines a range of actions to reduce illegal dumping using six approaches:

  • Building an evidence base
  • Stakeholder engagement and capacity building
  • Education and awareness
  • Prevention, infrastructure and clean-up
  • Regulation and enforcement
  • Evaluation and monitoring.

The strategy is supported by $65 million of funding provided through the Waste Less, Recycle More initiative.
